Global statistics presented by UNICEF indicate that children have a higher likelihood to live a life of poverty compared to adults. The UNICEF website reveals that 1 billion children exhibit multi-dimensional poverty with 365 million living in extreme dearth. The children are not able to access the basics such as education, housing, sanitation, water, or nutrition. The stories of children living in poor conditions need to be told with dignity. However, the circumstances surrounding their existence complicate this with majority of those exhibited in photography showing a less dignified living. The consequences are dire considering the poorest children have a higher likelihood to die from poverty compared to those in wealthier settings. These children succumb to challenges associated with the scourge including living on $1.90 a day as told by UNICEF. Nonetheless, photography continues to tell the stories of children in countries struggling with economic burdens. Photography has brought to light the living conditions of these children while also influencing policy discussion to steer change in the modern society and community. Governments and global institutions such as UNICEF have introduced collaborative efforts to deal with poverty following intensified debate on the same. A significant majority of these debates have emerged from conversations initiated by photography. It is therefore, evident that photography plays a role in addressing global poverty by exposing the vulnerabilities of children.
